She may have been embarrassed when her alleged semi-nude photos went viral a year ago, but this did not stop Ogopa DJs’ singer Avril from going topless in efforts to fight breast cancer.
Together with her Chokoza song mate Marya, the two got a breast cancer medical exam on camera. They teamed up with The Link 254, The Pink Project & AAR Williamson to raise awareness amongst young women about the silent killer.
The video, which was released earlier this week on Youtube, features both ladies talk about their commitment in supporting the campaign against breast cancer. "This had nothing to do with counteracting last year's experience but an effort to sensitise women from all age groups on the importance of the breast check,"Avril told Word Is.
The singer also revealed that she would be working alongside the AgaKhan Hospital Cancer Foundation in encouraging women to go for monthly checkups. "I just realised that most women wait until October to check their breasts. Unfortunately this disease does not wait,"she said
This was also a trying time for Marya who was very nervous during the interview having lost very close people to cancer. "Breast cancer brings back very sad memories as I lost my biological mother and grandmother to the disease,"said Marya.:The Star
